Easy Instructions for Getting on FaceBook

When you first go to FaceBook it asks you to sign in or create an account. You'll need an e-mail address and it's a good idea to be able to upload a picture of yourself that will others put the face with the name, so to speak.

Once you've established an account you have the option of entering information about yourself which will be called your profile. This is optional, but most people do it because, as you'll soon find out, here are hundreds of people on FaceBook with your name! The world is a really big place!

You have the ability to set privacy rules that govern how your info is made available or not. And if you want to show pictures of your dog or vacation then you are beginning to share your life with those people on FaceBook you are friends with. Everything is optional.

What is Social Media?

When the internet was first available to users of personal computers it was very awkward and clunky. It was like looking at an outline to your term paper in high school. But something magical happened when you clicked on the words that were underlined with your mouse. You were whisked away to another page. As the web evolved over the years web sites became more interesting.

FaceBook allows Community Building

It is very interactive today. People can comment to what they read on a website. A conversation begins and another magical thing happens - a community is formed! Our Rotary Club can now stay in touch with each other by using FaceBook & Twitter. FaceBook can be set up to send you e-mails when certain things happen or it can be configured so that you have to log on the site to see what's going on.
